Joella Dampier's Obituary
Joella Dampier, daughter of James T. and Lillie (Counts) Reid, was born November 18, 1934 in St. Louis, Missouri. She departed this life Wednesday, August 30, 2006, in her home, in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of seventy-one years, nine months, and twelve days. On December 30, 1958, she was united in marriage to Edward H. Dampier, and to this union two daughters were born. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Maggie Tolley, two brothers, Gary Lee Reid and an infant brother, James Reid. Joella is survived by her husband, Ed, of Tunas, Missouri; two daughters, Karen Boswell, of Springfield, Missouri, and Sharon Dampier, and her husband, Mark Mitchell, of Camdenton, Missouri; one granddaughter, Amanda Boswell; two sisters, Nancy Weber, of Bonne Terre, Missouri and Shirley Brawley, of St. Louis, Missouri; two brothers, Richard Reid, of Cape Cod, Massachusetts, and Danny Reid, of St. Louis, Missouri, a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. She was born in St. Louis, Missouri and grew up in the Baden area of St. Louis, graduating from Beaumont High School. She worked at AT&T for eleven years, and while working there, met and married Ed. They had made their home in Sikeston, Missouri; Springfield, Missouri, and then moved to Eldridge to the family farm. Later she moved to Springfield to be closer to her granddaughter. Joella was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lebanon and her faith was a very important part of her life. She was a devoted homemaker and her family was very important to her. Her granddaughter, Amanda was the light of her life. In her spare time, she enjoyed bowling, playing cards, and watching movies. Joella was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and her accomplishments and will cherish the wonderful memories she created for her family and friends. Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, September 2, 2006, in the Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Lebanon. Burial will be in Ira Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday evening from 7 - 8:30 p.m. under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Lebanon, Missouri.
