Joetta Kay Wood (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Joetta Kay Wood was born September 30, 1951 in Kirksville, Missouri to Vernon J. and Hazel Lake Wood. She passed away Thursday, October 9, 2025 in Lebanon South Nursing and Rehab in Lebanon, Missouri. She was seventy-four years and nine days of age.
Joetta was a beloved educator and cherished friend. She lived a life dedicated to the growth and education of others, leaving a profound impact on her students and the community throughout her career.
Joetta earned her Bachelor of Science in Education from Northwest Missouri State University and later acquired a Master of Science in Special Education from Southwest Missouri State University. Her commitment to education was exemplified through her work as a teacher, where she inspired countless students and fostered a love for learning in their hearts. A member of the Gamma Sigma Sorority, Joetta built lasting friendships that enriched her life and those around her.
Joetta attended Plato First Baptist Church where she always requested to sing "In The Garden". She had a deep love for God and her church family which reflected in her daily life.
Joetta is preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Dorothy Cash; and her brother, Marty Ammon.
Joetta is survived by her brother, Eugene Wood and his wife Bonnie of Lebanon, Missouri; nieces, Jennifer Kittel and husband John, of Phillipsburg, Missouri, Mary Ammon Goodrich and husband Wayne, of Olathe, Kansas, Jennifer Ammon Frances and husband Robert Hutchins of Hardin, Missouri, Lindsay Wood and her wife Sarah of Springfield, Missouri, and Cynthia Ziegler; her nephews, Brian Ammon and wife Anastasia of Erie, Colorado and Chris Wood and wife Rhonda of San Tan Valley, Arizona; along with other loved ones, friends and special "Angels" who cared for her in the end.
As we reflect on Joetta's life, we remember her spirit of generosity, her passion for education, and her unwavering dedication to those she loved. She touched the lives of many and will be deeply missed.
Funeral services to honor Joetta Kay Wood will be Tuesday, October 14, 2025 at Plato First Baptist Church at 2 p.m. with burial in Plato Lynch Cemetery. A visitation will be Monday, October 13, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. at Holman Howe Funeral Home Lebanon.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Joetta's memory may be made to the Plato School and donations may be left at Holman Howe Funeral Home.
