John Lee Barrett (Buffalo)'s Obituary
Johnnie Lee “John” Barrett, son of the late Sidney R and Flossie L. Barrett was born on August 1, 1949, in Kellyville, Oklahoma. He departed this life on August 18, 2023, at the Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans’ Hospital in Columbia, Missouri. At the time of his passing, he was 74 years and 17 days of age.
John joined the US Army in 1968 serving as a cook, heavy equipment operator, and marksman until his honorable discharge in 1971. His love of over-the-road driving took him all over the country until he retired in 2011. John was able to pass his knowledge of the field onto others by teaching at Vatterott College in Springfield in 2016. John loved the simple things, watching the wildlife from the porch, a good joke, fishing, and tinkering with his tractors.
John was preceded in death by his parents; one brother Marion LeRay Barrett; daughter Leonia Marie Barrett; son Kenneth Mac Sharpe. He is survived by his wife, Linda Faye Barrett, three sons, John Edward Barrett and life-partner Jennifer Alcorn, Raymond Lee “Ray” Barrett and wife Christine, and Benny Wayne Sharpe; three daughters, Peggy Sue Sharpe, Lisa Nicole Sharpe, and Jennifer Renee Sharpe; three sisters, LeNetia Marie Zinnert, Nora May Barrett, and Deborah Yeonne Hector; one brother, Sidney Ray Barrett; fifteen grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren and a multitude of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends that will miss him deeply.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. with funeral services directly following on Sunday August 27, 2023, at Cantlon-Otterness &Viets Funeral Home in Buffalo. Escorts will be John E. Barrett, Ray Barrett, Scotty Hall, Kenny Hall, Sid Mauzey, and Dylan Williams. Interment will be at the Hopewell Cemetery.
