John Cole (Mansfield)'s Obituary
John (Port) William Cole, son of John Sam and Grace Hargus Cole was born May 22, 1924 in Webster County, Missouri and departed this life on January 17, 2013 in Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri at the age of eighty-eight years, seven months and twenty-five days.
On May 14, 1951 he was united in marriage to Lena Fay Shimel and to this union four daughters, Wanda, Carol, Patty & Jana were born.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters.
John is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Lena of the home; daughters, Wanda Quinn and her husband Joseph, Carol Hanger and her husband Don, Patty Hanger and her husband Gary all of Mansfield, Missouri, and Jana McConnell and her husband Monty of Marshfield, Missouri; five grandsons, Don, Brad, Jeff, Nathan & James Hanger; one granddaughter, Mandy Sigafus; nineteen great-grandchildren as well as several nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
He grew up in Webster County and attended Flint Hollow School. He served his country faithfully in the United States Army during WWII.
John had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a faithful member of the Mansfield Christian Church where everyone there was like a part of his family.
He was a dairy farmer and raised calves as well as a factory laborer. In his spare time he enjoyed gardening and grew a garden that was the talk of the community.
John was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and will always cherish the many wonderful memories.
