John Cook's Obituary
John Clyde Cook, son of Samuel Newton and Laura Isabell (Henson) Cook, was born February 20, 1922, near Seymour, Missouri. He departed this life Saturday, December 12, 2009, in Glenwood Healthcare in Seymour, Missouri, at the age of eighty-seven years, ten months, and twenty-two days. On November 20, 1945, he was united in marriage to Sylvia Aileen Hargus and together they have spent sixty-four wonderful years. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, James Cook, Ben Cook, George Cook, and an infant, William Cook; three sisters, Katherine Hargis, Delia Frakes, and an infant sister, Susan Cook. John is survived by his loving wife, Sylvia Aileen, of the home; a sister, Mildred Blankenship, of Springfield, Missouri; two brothers, Charles H. “Dee” Cook, of Springfield, Missouri, and Sam Cook and his wife, Lois, of Fordland, Missouri; three sisters-in-law, Helen Haynes, of Springfield, Missouri, Freda Fisher, of Clearfield, Utah, and Leota Crocker, of Layton, Utah; one brother-in-law, Elza Hargus and his wife, Vera, of Pampa, Texas; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and many friends. He grew up in Seymour and served his country faithfully with the United States Army from November 1942 to October l945 during World War II. He was a member of the Allied Forces who reclaimed the beaches of Normandy during the D-Day Invasion, and had also served in the Central Europe, Rhineland, and North France Campaigns. Following his service time he returned to Seymour, and he and Sylvia Aileen were married and made their home on their farm north of Seymour. John also worked at Henning’s Egg Processing Plant in Springfield and as a carpenter for many years. John had made his profession of faith in God and was a member of the Seymour First Baptist Church. He also was Past Master Mason and 50 year member of Hazelwood Masonic Lodge #459 AF &AM, a member of Chapter #144 Order of Eastern Star, VFW Post #1502 in Seymour, Royal Arch Masons Vancil Chapter #110 in Springfield, and was also a member of the Webster County Veterans Funeral Honors Team, where he served with honor and pride until his health began to fail. In addition to farming and raising Angus Beef Cattle, he loved growing gardens full of vegetables and especially tomatoes. In his spare time he liked to collect and listen to country music. John was a wonderful devoted and loving husband, brother, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and will cherish the precious memories he has created for his family and friends. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday December 15, 2009 at the Holman-Howe Funeral Home in Seymour.Burial will be in the Liberty Cemetery.
