John Crain (Mansfield)'s Obituary
John Claude Crain, son of Seburn and Golda Hensley Crain, was born August 26, 1928 in Mansfield, Missouri and departed this life on August 12, 2016 in his home near Mansfield at the age of eighty-seven years, eleven months and sixteen days.
On June 1, 1956 he was united in marriage to Dortha Pettigrew and combined, they had ten children.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Wilma Jean Sanz, two brothers, Albert Letsinger and Joe Letsinger, daughter-in-law, Debbie Crain; son-in-law, Ronnie Page.
John is survived by his wife of sixty years, Dortha of the home; six sons, Merle Crain and wife, Sandy of Hartville, Rocky Crain and Donna Sparnicht, Brent Crain and wife, Margaret, all of Mansfield, Johnnie Crain and wife, Mary, Ronnie Crain and wife, Bonnie, all of Muskateen, Iowa, and Rodney Crain and wife, Nancy, of Ava; four daughters, Leta Page of Mansfield, Lynette Milford and husband, Eldon, of Mtn. Grove, Martha Matney and husband, Albert, of Mansfield and Golda Johnston and Eddie McIntosh, of Norwood; thirty-five grandchildren; numerous great and great-great grandchildren; three brothers, Bill Letsinger and wife, Fran, of San Antonio, Texas, Leon Letsinger and wife, Ann, of Pinedale, Wyoming and Elmer Letsinger and wife, Debbie, of Mansfield; many nieces, nephews other relatives and many friends.
He was raised in Mansfield and moved to Colorado where he met and married Dortha. In 1959 they moved to Arkansas where they lived for 3 years. In 1962, they moved to Mansfield where he lived the rest of his life. He served his country in the Korean war, where he drove a tank for the United States Army. He was also an over-the-road truck driver for over 40 years and his handle was ”Missouri Slow Poke.”
In his spare time, he enjoyed trout fishing, travelling, working on tractors and lawn mowers.
John was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great- grandfather, brother, uncle and a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and will cherish the great times we had with him.
