John Eldon Johnson (Buffalo)'s Obituary
John Eldon Johnson, 84 passed away peacefully in his home on August 9, 2023, in Urbana, MO. Born December 13, 1938, to the late Dorsey “Red” and Lillie Mae Bell Johnson in Parkville, MO.
John met the love of his life Linda Amos at a square dance, and they were united in marriage on January 1, 1958, and to this union three children were born, Debra, Joe and Gail and in 1986 they started over raising their grandchildren, Timothy and Mindy.
John spent over 20 years as President of Baker’s Sandblasting in Kansas City, MO. He was a jack of all trades and could fix anything. From an early age he owned a Skelley gas station and a pump service. When John retired from Baker’s, he moved with Linda to their farm in Urbana, MO and started hobby farming and a Sandblasting & Paint company as well as a bull dozing service.
He had a love for racing and raced IMCA sprint cars for 22 years winning many races throughout Missouri, Kansas, and Iowa. Later in life, he owned a modified racecar and shared his passion for racing with his grandson, Tim and neighbor Darren. You could find him on the weekends at the Dallas County Speedway or at the Wheatland Racetrack now known as Lucas Oil Speedway.
John loved camping, fishing, and spending time tinkering on his farm. He could always be found outside working on something. But the love for his family always came first. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
John is preceded in death by his parents, brother’s Bill, Donald, & Raymond Johnson, and sister Laveta Ford, daughter Debra Irwin, son Joe Johnson and a great-great grandson, Byron Bostwick.
He is survived by his wife, Linda of the home, daughter Gail Roe, Buffalo, MO, grandson Timothy (Jeri Anne) Bostwick, Buffalo, MO, granddaughter Mindy (Roger) Morris, Buffalo, MO. Grandchildren Jeremy (Samantha) Roe, Grand Praire, Texas, David Johnson (TN) , Sara Johnson TN, Great-Grandchildren Troy (Jodee) Bostwick, Hermitage, MO, Lindsey (Matt) Wadley, Buffalo, MO and Eric Bostwick, Urbana, MO. Great-Great grandchildren Mia Roberts, John Bostwick, Easton and Cooper Wadley. Brothers Larry (Lois) Johnson, Parkville, MO and Randy (Joy) Johnson, Stockton, MO along with a host of family and friends who will miss him.
Funeral Services are scheduled for 6:00 p.m. Thursday, August 17, 2023, with visitation being held the hour prior beginning at 5:00 p.m. at Cantlon Otterness & Viets, Buffalo, MO.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Cantlon-Otterness and Viets Funeral Home, Buffalo.
