John Leonard Kukal (Bolivar)'s Obituary
John Leonard Kukal, age 91, of Bolivar, Missouri, passed away on Monday, September 12, 2016, at Parkview Healthcare Facility, in Bolivar.
John Leonard was born on October 15, 1924, the son of Edward and Josie Kukal. He grew up west of Bolivar, where he learned to farm with his dad. He was known for showing registered Duroc hogs from 1938 to 1948, and won the first FFA American Farmer Degree in Bolivar.
In 1942, after serving in the Army, in Japan, he and Atilee Hagerman were married. After they were married they started a dairy and grain farm. In 1995 they retired and moved to Bolivar, where John Leonard was known for his woodworking and gardening.
John was a member of Barren Creek, Cumberland Presbyterian Church, and later transferred to First Baptist, in Bolivar.
You would see John Leonard around town always ready with a joke, and always wearing his Stetson hat. He will be missed greatly by his family and friends.
John Leonard is preceded in death by his wife, Atilee; his parents; two sisters, Leona Kukal, and Anna Mae (Kukal) Pope; several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He is survived by two daughters, Linda Lee (Kukal) Rice, and her husband Gene, and Kathy Ann (Kukal) Overcast; three grandchildren, Gelin (Rice) Douglas, and husband Pat, of Bolivar, Steven Gallivan, and wife Sara, of Halfway, and Russell Gallivan, and wife Ami, of Thornton, Colorado; eight great grandchildren, Josie and Cy Douglas, of Bolivar, Sloan, Sammi, Shane, and Sterling Gallivan, of Halfway, and Madison, and Brody John Gallivan, of Thornton Colorado; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, and other family members.
