John R. Locke (Buffalo)'s Obituary
John Ronald Locke was born in Golden Gate, Illinois September 17, 1935 to Isaac Manley and Flossie Roberta (Kuster) Locke. He died on January 14, 2019 in Mission, Texas at the age of 83.
The youngest of seven boys and one sister. He grew up on a small farm not far from town where he loved to ride his horse. He married Betty Louise Scott his High School sweetheart in Albion, Illinois on September 8, 1952.
John became a welder and joined the Boilermaker’s Union at a very early age. After he married Betty they settled down in Hammond, Indiana where he worked in most of the steel mills in the region for the next 42 years. When he retired, he moved to Long Lane, Missouri to a small farm where he raised cattle. John was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing any day it wasn’t raining or snowing.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Isaac Manley and Flossie Roberta and his wife Betty of 56 years; five of his brothers; Gordan, Elvyn, Barton, Howard, Myron, and his sister, Iva Rambo of Long Lane, Missouri. Survivors include his brother Duane and Elsa Locke of Polson, Montana; his son, Ron and Judi Locke of Long Lane; daughters, Ruth Somers of Hudson, Illinois, Roberta and Joe Bright of Long Lane, and Iva and Tim Sullivan of Valparaiso, Indiana; nine Grandchildren and 12 great- grandchildren and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Services will be at the Cantlon Otterness & Viets Funeral Home, 931 Main Street in Buffalo, Missouri on January 26, 2019 at 2 p.m. His ashes will be interned in Fairfield, Illinois with his wife at a later date.
