John W McIntyre (Lebanon)'s Obituary
John William McIntyre, son of Earl and Margaret Parker McIntyre, was born November 21, 1926, in Ottawa, Illinois. He departed this life Sunday, February 12, 2017, in his home, near Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of ninety years, two months, and twenty-one days.
On August 22, 1951, he was united in marriage to Nellie Jeanette Sluder, and to this union three daughters and one son were born.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Nellie, on December 8, 1999; a granddaughter, Lori Butts; three brothers, Orville, Athel, and Melvin McIntyre; and two sisters, Agatha Bennett, and Louise Rossness.
John is survived by three daughters, Sandra Martin, and her husband, Larry, Theresa Lay, and her husband, Paul, and Cindy McIntyre, and her significant other, James Tucker, all of Lebanon, Missouri; a son, John William “Jay” McIntyre, and his wife, Mary, of Marseilles, Illinois; four grandchildren, Lisa Butts, Doug Butts, Jayson McIntyre, and Kelsey Martin; three great-grandchildren, Lauren Finnell, Dakota Butts, and Bria Finnell; two great-great-grandchildren, Jayden Finnell, and Braxtyn Davis; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was born and raised in the Ottawa, Illinois area. John used to talk about living through the depression years and knew what it was like to be hungry and would sacrifice to provide for others. After he and Nellie were married, they made their home in Earlville, Illinois, and John worked for Marathon Electric Corporation. The family moved to Lebanon, Missouri, in 1981, and John continued to work for Marathon Electric compiling over thirty years of service to the corporation.
John was saved and baptized at a young age, and maintained his Christian faith throughout the years.
He enjoyed summers the most. He was able to spend time with Cindy shopping, eating out, and searching far and wide for the best tasting tomatoes. He greatly enjoyed visiting the animal shelter during their outings and dearly loved animals. He adopted “Boots” the cat after Nellie passed away, and when Boots left this world, he welcomed a new cat, “Peanut” into his home. He also enjoyed coin and stamp collecting. He was a consummate storyteller and always had a joke for every occasion. He possessed a delightful sense of humor, was fiercely independent, and liked to laugh. He had recently become a fan of “The Walking Dead” television show and in his last days enjoyed binge watching the series. His family was very important to him and he especially enjoyed all his grandchildren.
John was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, uncle, and was a kind and caring neighbor and friend. John had a special way of saying goodbye and so we suggest today that in saying farewell to John use his favorite saying, “I love you and God does too!”
