John R. Roth (Lebanon)'s Obituary
John Robert Roth was born December 3, 1938 in Breckenridge, Minnesota to Wendell J. Roth and Georgiana Marie Robinson Roth. John passed away Wednesday night, March 26, 2025, in Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. He was eighty-six years, three months and twenty-three days of age.
John grew up in Hankinson, North Dakota and graduated high school at St. Francis Academy in Hankinson. He then studied printing at North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton, North Dakota.
He joined the United States Army and served in Korea. He was always proud to say the best part of the military was being stationed at Fort Leonard Wood and meeting his wife-to-be, Verlene Pruitt. They married on August 20, 1960 and shared life, love and memories for the next sixty-four years.
John was preceded in death by his parents; his precious wife, Verlene, in January of 2025; and his infant brother, Paul Roger Roth. He was also very fond of his dog, BB, who just passed away earlier this month.
John is survived by his son, Jeff Roth and his wife Carolyn of Springfield, Missouri; one granddaughter, Jennifer and her husband David; three great-grandchildren, Jeylon, Royal and Rayna; his brother, David Roth of Omaha, Nebraska; one sister, Kathy Hrdlicka of Hankinson, North Dakota; and other relatives and friends.
After his marriage to Verlene, the couple settled in Lebanon where John would be employed at Justice Furniture and then worked the majority of his career at Mid-AM Dairy Company. He then spent several years in the maintenance department at Lebanon Schools before retiring. After he retired, he was employed at Quality Car Wash.
John was very dedicated to the Catholic faith and was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church.
In his younger days, he enjoyed playing golf, going to the casinos in Las Vegas, and hanging out with his buddies. John was a good friend to many.
The family would like to thank Carrie Howerton for the special care she provided.
John loved his family very much and looked forward to the times they would spend together, making memories and celebrating many special occasions. John especially looked forward to connecting with family and friends during vacations spent in his childhood home of Hankinson.
We celebrate his life and his accomplishments and know that his family and friends will treasure the wonderful memories he made for them.
Mass of Christian Burial for John R. Roth will be Tuesday, April 1 at 10 a.m. at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Lebanon. Rosary will be Monday, March 31 at 6 p.m. at Holman-Howe Funeral Home. Visitation will follow.
A memorial has been established to the American Diabetes Association and donations may be left at the funeral home.
