John "Steve" Price (Bolivar) 's Obituary
John Stephen “Steve” Price, of Bear Creek passed away on Friday, June 5, 2015 at his home in Bolivar. He was born September 28, 1948 to John Howard and Virginia Price and was a proud older brother to his younger sibling, Kem.
Steve attended both Bear Creek and Stockton schools, playing a number of sports but especially loved playing center and nose tackle for the football team. Steve graduated from Stockton High School in 1966 and was appointed to the US Military Academy at West Point, NY. Steve attended the University of Missouri and joined Alpha Gamma Sigma fraternity, where he met so many of his closest friends. He received his degree in Agriculture Economics and Engineering and attended law school at Mizzou.
He began working for Mutual of New York as an independent insurance agent until his love for farming brought him back to the family farm, and quickly established Price Farms as the “go-to” place for Chester White and Hampshire genetics, with sales across the United States and numerous international trips to Mexico, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Hong Kong. Steve served in multiple leadership roles in the swine industry, including President of Missouri Pork Producers Association, a member of the National Pork Producers Council, and was appointed to the Governor’s council on Agriculture.
Steve was very active in the Stockton community, including serving as the President of the Stockton School Board, leadership roles with the Cedar County Youth Fair, and was a Deacon at Stockton Christian Church. He brought hundreds of Stockton youth on tours of the pig farm and sponsored a number of “pork burger days” at the school.
Steve loved his family more than anything. He married Kathy in January of 1978 and had their only son, Matt, in 1982. Steve loved to do whatever Matt was doing, whether helping coach his baseball and basketball teams or learning how to care for and show pigs. He is survived by his brother Kem, wife Kathy, son Matt, daughter-in-law Melissa, and his beloved granddaughter, Ava.
In lieu of flowers & plants, Steve requested that contributions be made to a scholarship fund for his granddaughter, Ava.
