John Richard Wood (Buffalo)'s Obituary
John Richard Wood, son of the late John A. and Allene C. (Powell) Wood, was born on August 14, 1946 in Patuxent River, Maryland, and departed this life on July 18, 2025 in Columbia, Missouri. At the time of his passing he was 78 years, 11 months, and three days of age. John was raised and attended school in Independence, MO. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized as a young adult at the First Baptist Church of Independence, MO. After graduating, he worked for Allis-Chalmers. He was united in marriage to Caroline Harp in 1965 and to this union one daughter, Wendy was born. He enlisted with the United States Marines and served his country from 1966-1968, including one tour in Vietnam for 13 months. After his time in the Marines, he moved his family back to Independence before moving to a farm near Preston, MO in 1994. With the help of his father, he built a home for his family. John worked as a master electrician and retired early to enjoy time with his grandchildren and time on the farm he loved to call home. John was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Caroline of the home; his daughter, Wendy Wood of Preston, MO; three grandchildren, Maci Senat of Centralia, WA, Madison Wood of Springfield, MO, and Maegan Wood & Jeremy Carkhuff of Springfield, MO; his great-grandchildren, Jericho Johnson, Odette Senat, Celine Senat, and Emmeline Senat; one brother, Glen Wood & Robert Wagner of Arora, CO; and one sister, Martha Berlin & Gary Ackerman of Preston, MO. He also leaves other family members and many friends who will all truly miss him. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 22, 2025 in the Cantlon-Otterness & Viets Funeral Home in Urbana. Interment will be in the Fisher Cemetery under the care and direction of the Cantlon-Otterness & Viets Funeral Home of Urbana. Visitation will be from 12:00-1:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Funeral Home. Donations may be made to the Fischer Cemetery Fund.
