John L. Woosley (Lebanon)'s Obituary
John Louie Woosley, son of John Frederick and Lula Mae Bayless Woosley, was born November 13, 1929, near Lebanon, Missouri. He departed this life Saturday, December 31, 2016, in Mercy Hospital, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of eighty-seven years, one month, and eighteen days.
His mother passed away while giving birth to John and he was taken to live with his grandmother, Christina Margaret Sutton, and her daughter, Christena Weaver, who lovingly raised him.
On July 1, 1955, he was united in marriage to Norma Lee Agee, and to this union two daughters were born.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandmother and aunt; a brother, Fritz Woosley; four sisters, Lorean Woosley, Mary McKelvey, Lucille Bourassa, and Wilma Delcour; an infant sibling; a brother-in-law, Bill Adams; a sister-in-law, Betty Tannahill; and a special cousin, Benny Weaver.
John is survived by his loving wife of sixty-one years, Norma, of the home; two daughters, Pam Kelley, and her husband, Scott, and Cheryl Wood, and her husband, Steve, all of Lebanon, Missouri; five grandchildren, Jason Chastain, and his wife, Heather, Derick Chastain, and C.J., Tyler Chastain, and his wife, Amy, Stacie Smith, and Alex Wood, and Kaytee; six great-grandchildren, Korbin, Garrison, Kinley, Ty, Addy, and Preslea; two brothers-in-law, Don Agee, and Floyd Tannahill; a sister-in-law, Frances Adams; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He graduated from Lebanon High School in the Class of 1949, and then entered the military as a young man. He served his country faithfully in the United States Army from March 26, 1951 until March 11, 1953, and was stationed in Germany during the Korean War. After being honorably discharged from the Army, he returned to Lebanon where he soon married Norma. They made their home in the Lebanon area and lovingly raised their daughters. John worked in the printing business for a number of years, and was employed by Page Printing Company before owning and operating John’s Printing Company in Lebanon. He also worked in the building construction business for a time.
John made his profession of faith in Christ early in his life and was a longtime member of Hillcrest Baptist Church in Lebanon.
While in high school, John was a noted basketball player and was later inducted into the Lebanon Area Sports Hall of Fame. He enjoyed fishing, particularly with his grandchildren, and bowling in his spare time. He also liked watching basketball and baseball on television. He possessed an outgoing and friendly personality and never met a stranger. His family was very important to him and he especially enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
John was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and his accomplishments and know that his family and friends will hold tight to the wonderful memories he made for them during his eighty-seven years.
