Johnnie D. Amos (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Johnnie D. Amos, son of Walter Dee and Edna Frances (Beard) Amos, was born June 23, 1927, on the family farm near Orla, Missouri. He departed this life Sunday, September 24, 2017, in his home, near Falcon, Missouri, at the age of ninety years, three months and one day.
On August 12, 1947, he was united in marriage to Berniece Hamilton, and to this union four sons were born.
He was born and reared in the Orla, Missouri area, and graduated from Competition High School in the Class of 1945. Johnnie served his country faithfully in the United States Army Air Force as a Control Tower Operator, and was Honorably Discharged on July 24, 1947. He later married Berniece and they began their seventy year journey on the pathway of life. They made their home in several places in southwestern Laclede County around Orla, Falcon, and Lynchburg, Missouri. Johnnie centered his life around caring for his family and working on the farm. He always found time to spend with his sons and the grandchildren, who was a delight to him. Also, caring for the operation of the dairy required a devoted commitment to the long days of work that was a passion of his. You could find him in the milk barn, on a tractor working the land, riding a horse or a four-wheeler checking up on or rounding up the cattle for milking. In earlier years he also had worked at Detroit Tool in Lebanon, Missouri and was a milk hauler.
Johnnie had professed his faith in Jesus Christ and was a member of the Orla Baptist Church and then transferred to Lynchburg Baptist Church. He had also been a former member of the Odd Fellow Lodge.
In his spare time he enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, getting in the car for a short trip or traveling on a vacation. Some (his sons) would say he liked to give orders of instruction.
Johnnie is survived by his devoted wife, Berniece, of the home; three sons, Gene Amos (Judy) of Falcon, Missouri, Jerry Amos (Edna) of Falcon, Missouri, and Danny Amos (Vicki) of Falcon, Missouri; twelve grandchildren, thirty-seven great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Eddie Amos of Lebanon, Missouri, and Jewel Amos(Gail) of Grovespring, Missouri, a sister-in-law, Sally Amos of Lebanon, Missouri; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Larry Amos; and a grandson, Nathan Amos; siblings, Neta Moore (Lee), James Amos, Loretta Vernon (Gilbert) and a sister-in-law, Ruth Amos.
He will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by all those that knew him. We celebrate his life and will treasure the wonderful memories he created for his family and friends. He will live on in our hearts forever.
