Johnnie Porter (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Johnnie J. Porter, son of James Martin and Rosie Ethel Kincaid Porter, was born April 22, 1930, near Conway, Missouri. He departed this life Monday, July 30, 2012, in Christian Health Care North, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of eighty-two years, three months, and eight days.
On October 12, 1955, he was united in marriage to Lois Wilma Edwards, and they shared thirty-four years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a daughter, Connie Jones; a brother, Bill Porter; and two sisters, Sue Sherrer, and Gladys Dinwiddie.
Johnnie is survived by a daughter, Jeanie Barker, and her husband, Everett, of Lebanon, Missouri; three sons, John Porter, and his wife, Ellen, of Gardner, Kansas, James Porter, of Conway, Missouri, and Danny Porter, of the State of Oregon; two step-daughters, Betty Scott, and her husband, Jim, of Lebanon, Missouri, and Pauline Smith, and her husband, Roger, of Camdenton, Missouri; eleven grandchildren, including a special grandson, Derek Porter, of St. Charles, Missouri; a number of great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; three sisters, Sadie Perryman, of Conway, Missouri, Rosalee Richardson, and Edith Petty, both of Lebanon, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was born and raised in the Conway community, and lived most of his life there. Throughout the years, Johnnie worked for Melvin Lafferty Construction and at Independent Stave Company. He also operated a small cattle farm for many years.
Johnnie had made his profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Twilight Church, near Conway, Missouri.
In his spare time he enjoyed being outdoors where he liked caring for his cattle and being on the farm. He had a wonderful ability to recall people’s names and had many friends.
Johnnie was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, brother, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and know that he will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
