Johnny Deckard's Obituary
Rev. John Elvis “Johnny” Deckard, son of Brady Elvis and Ella Whiteaker Deckard, was born February 18, 1945, in Lincoln, Missouri. He departed this life Wednesday, June 20, 2007, in his home, near Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of sixty-two years, four months, and two days. On July 26, 1984, he was united in marriage to Martha L. Dean, and together they shared the last twenty-three years. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Martha N. Deckard; and a sister, Nadine Powell. Johnny is survived by his loving wife, Martha, of the home; a daughter, Colleen Davis, of Lebanon, Tennessee; two grandchildren, Casey Deckard and Colt Forrest; two great-grandchildren, Ella Marie and Patton Lee Deckard; a brother, William “Bill” Deckard, of Sedalia, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. He was born and raised in the Lincoln, Missouri community and graduated from Lincoln High School. He made his home in Springfield in the late 1970’s, and then moved to the Lebanon community. For forty years he was a dedicated minister and was currently the pastor at Grace and Glory Tabernacle Full Gospel Church. Johnny made his profession of faith in Christ early in his life and followed the Pentecostal faith. He not only was a devoted servant to his Lord and Savior, but also took care of his congregation and helped anyone in need. He ministered in music as well, being talented at playing the guitar and singing. He had a fondness for animals and especially loved his dogs. He had a wonderful, bright smile and enjoyed life. His family was very important to him and he greatly loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Johnny was a loving family man, a devoted pastor, and a kind and caring friend. We celebrate his life and his accomplishments and will treasure the memories he made for his family and friends. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 23, 2007, in the Holman-Howe Chapel, Lebanon. Burial will be in the Ivey Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday evening from 7 - 8:30 p.m. under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Lebanon, Missouri. Memorials to Regional Hospice may be made through the funeral home.
