Julie A Hughes (Hartville)'s Obituary
Julie Ann Hughes, daughter of Ellis Bass and Jennie Helsley, was born December 19, 1959 in Springfield, Missouri. The Lord called her home Tuesday, February 6, 2018 in Wichita, Kansas, at the age of fifty-eight years, one month, and eighteen days.
On July 28, 1978, Julie was united in marriage to Roger Lee Hughes and to this union three sons and a daughter were born.
Julie was preceded in death by her loving husband, Roger and her father, Ellis.
She is survived by her mother, Jennie Helsley of Hartville, Missouri; three sons, Justin Hughes and his wife Lauren, of Hartville, Missouri; Joshua Hughes and his wife Syndee, of Mountain Grove, Missouri, and Jordan Hughes and his wife Amanda, of Hartville, Missouri; a daughter, Jasmin Hughes-Gehrke and her husband Dustin, of Grove, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren, Jace, Jesse, Cooper, Adalee, Kale, Anna, and Axden; two sisters, Sandra Landers and her husband David, of Marshfield, Missouri and Connie Chisum and her husband Kenney of Valley View, Texas; a sister-in-law, Judy Emmerson and her husband Radell, of Mountain Grove, Missouri; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many, many caring friends.
Julie was born in Springfield, and raised in Hartville. She graduated Hartville High School in 1978 and then married the love her life, Roger, in July of 1978. On August 4, 1995, Roger tragically passed away in a plane crash in Alaska, leaving Julie to raise her four children by herself. Julie pressed on, never giving up and finished raising her children out on the farm the way she and Roger had always planned. Julie was a dedicated member of the Free Will Baptist Church and always took her children with her. She always wanted to be behind the scenes of everything that went on in the church. Julie never wanted credit for anything, she would much rather prop someone up than be in the spotlight. Every Sunday after church she would hold her famous Sunday dinners to feed everyone she loved.
Julie worked for US Bank for 37 years. However, her job was hardly the most important thing in her life. She enjoyed cooking, painting, taking pictures, sewing, going to garage sales, and “extreme” gardening. If she found a rock on the side of the road, fields, or anywhere to her liking, her determination would get it to her garden; either by picking it up by hand or secretly stealing her kids’ equipment. She also liked to travel, going on adventures with family such as hiking in the mountains, camping at the lake, or even taking a walk on her family farm. She enjoyed talking to everyone, whether it would be with family or complete strangers. Most of all, Julie loved spending time and playing with her grandkids. They were the joy of her life and she was very good at spoiling them. She loved all of her family very much and she would never put herself before anyone. Julie was a loving daughter, mother, MeMe, sister, and loving friend. We celebrate her wonderful life and will always cherish the many happy memories she helped created and the legacy of love she left behind.
