Karen S. Smith (Seymour)'s Obituary
Karen Sue (Longcor) Smith, daughter of Howard Marian Longcor, Sr. and Anne Barbara Stajcar, was born June 26, 1950 in Des Moines, Iowa. She departed this life on September 23, 2013 in Mercy Hospital, Springfield, Missouri at the age of sixty-three years, two months and twenty-eight days.
Raised up in Des Moines, it was there that she met the love of her life Billy Ray Smith on a blind date her sister set up for her. They were married on April 8, 1972 and to this union two sons and one daughter were born. They lived in Des Moines for a little over a year before moving to Fortuna, Missouri. On a trip to Springfield, Billy saw a sign for a farm for sale in the Seymour area and in 1976 they couple settled into the community. Karen lovingly raised her family and started working for the Seymour Bank in loan review in 1993.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother Howard Longcor, Jr.
Karen is survived by her husband of forty-one years Billy Ray Smith of the home; her children Aaron James Smith and wife April of Seymour, Missouri, Christine Marie Cordova and husband Gabriel of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, Byrl James Smith and special partner Samantha of Springfield, Missouri; her grandchildren Danielle, Carsen, Brady, Gracie, Alexa and Ashlyn; her brothers David Longcor and wife Judy of Des Moines, Iowa, Steve Longcor and wife Nancy of San Luis Obispo, California and Barry Longcor of Wichita Kansas; her sisters Pat Null and husband Jack, Sheila Null and husband Jerry , and Mary Lumley all of Des Moines, Iowa; as well as a host of other dear family and friends.
A truly excellent person, Karen sought to do her best in everything she did. She loved her family, and was always ready to help others. She enjoyed the simple things of life and had a gifted hand at calligraphy. Karen a lifelong Catholic and was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Mansfield, Missouri.
Karen Smith, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and a caring neighbor and friend will live on in our memories. We celebrate her life and accomplishments and will cherish each moment she was with us.
