Katherine "Kay" Keller (Humansville)'s Obituary
Katherine “Kay” Keller, 95, Humansville, died Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at the Northwood Hills Care Center in Humansville. Katherine Geneva Cordes Keller was born on August 31, 1930, to Charles and Rebecca (Long) Cordes, the fifth of seven children, in Rapid City, SD. She was raised and graduated from High School in the Rapid City area. She met Billy Don Keller in Rapid City and they were married on May 14, 1949, and to this union three children were born. Kay was saved on November 11, 1951 at Hickory Grove Missionary Baptist Church. She joined Hickory Grove soon afterwards and was a faithful member for close to 74 years, as long as her health permitted. Kay was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents; her husband Billy; her son and daughter in-law David and Linda; sisters and spouses, Sylvia (Zollie) Szakacs, Theresa (Chuck) Atwood, Rebecca (child), and Donna (Clayton) Brown; brothers and spouses, Robert (Thelma) Cordes, and George (Joyce) Cordes; brothers and sisters-in-laws, Janice (Buck) Myers, Geri (Clete) Baker and Earl Austin, Leo (Reva) Keller, Lloyd Keller, and Shirley (Wayne) Jenkins. Kay is survived by her children, Patsy and her husband Blaine Chaney of Bolivar, Brian and his wife Susanne Keller of Las Cruces, NM; seven grandchildren, Kevin (Mardie) Keller of Willard, Mark (Jennifer) Keller of Humansville, Robin (James) Roark of Dixon, Matthew Chaney of Bolivar, Chloe Keller of St. Charles, IL, Mackenzie Keller of St. Charles, MO, and Cole Keller of Las Cruces, NM; a sister-in-law Shirley Keller of Humansville; eight great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In Kay’s long life, she wore many hats. Besides being a devoted wife and a loving mother, she was a pastor’s wife, a homemaker, lived and worked on a farm, and was a cook at Humansville School for over 22 years. During her retirement and up until this Summer when her health declined, Kay took care of her flowers and still mowed her yard and drove herself and other neighbors on errands. Kay served many duties at Hickory Grove throughout her almost 74 years as a member and loved serving the Lord. Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 23rd from 3 to 5 pm at Butler Funeral Home in Humansville. Graveside Services will be held on Monday, November 24th at 1:00 pm at the Humansville Cemetery with Bro. Dillon Legan and Bro. Barry McCoy officiating and Bro. Barry McCoy and Jeff Stacy providing music. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the David Keller Scholarship Fund at the Humansville High School.
