Kathie JoEtte Cheek (Buffalo)'s Obituary
Kathie JoEtte (Deckard) Cheek, age 71, was born on March 31, 1954 in Springfield, MO to William and Della Deckard. She passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 15, 2025 at her home in Buffalo, MO surrounded by her family. Kathie spent most of her life in Dallas County and graduated from Buffalo High School. She dedicated her life to the Lord and was baptized at a young age. Kathie dedicated many years to serving the community through her work at Walmart in Buffalo, retiring in 2019. Kathie was a gifted individual who enjoyed crocheting, photography, and drawing. These activities brought joy and expressed her creativity and artistic spirit. After learning to crochet from her sister, her creations brought warmth and beauty into the lives of those around her. Kathie was preceded in death by her parents, William and Della Deckard and her sisters, Karole Cornelison, Judy Fitzpatrick, Trudy Adams, and Lindell Orrell. She is survived by a loving family including her daughter, Melanie and husband Stacy Weeks; her son, Kevin and wife Kelli Cheek; her grandchildren, Ethan Weeks, Kourt Cheek and fiancé Miranda Quennoz, Kenzi Cheek, and Khazz Cheek; her sisters, LaWanda Grider, Patsy and husband Jerry Shisler, Janice and husband Richard Cheffey, Sandra and husband Terry Edmonds, Rita Paxson, DeEtta Davidson, and Teresa and husband Ivan Jones; and her brother, Gary and wife Dixie Deckard. Kathie was also a beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews. Her memory will live on through the beautiful works she created. Kathie will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, July 21, 2025 in the Cantlon-Otterness & Viets Funeral Home with Bro. Chris Hendrickson officiating. Escorts will be Kevin Cheek, Kourt Cheek, Khazz Cheek, Stacy Weeks, Ethan Weeks, and Reggie Turner. Honorary escorts will be Gary Deckard, Richard Cheffey, Tony Grider, Jerry Shisler, Bobbie Davidson and Terry Edmonds. Interment will be in the Maple Lawn Cemetery under the care and direction of the Cantlon-Otterness & Viets Funeral Home of Buffalo. Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Monday at the Funeral Home. Donations may be made to the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
