On June 1, 1946, in Columbus, Kansas, she was united in marriage to Howard Eugene Deckard, and to this union one daughter and two sons were born.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gene, on July 21, 2009; two brothers, Willard McCormick, and an infant, Dan McCormick; and three sisters, Dorothy Bradshaw, Georgia Holman, and Mary Ruble.
Marie is survived by a daughter, Donna Traw, of Lebanon, Missouri; two sons, Ronnie Deckard, and his wife, Rita, of Dayton, Ohio, and Roy Deckard, and his wife, Patty, of Lebanon, Missouri; three grandchildren, Risa Owrey, and her husband, David, of Springfield, Missouri, Cassie Blattel, and her husband, Billy, of Eldridge, Missouri, and Cody Deckard, and his wife, Crystal, of Liberty, Missouri; seven great-grandchildren, Craten, Cally, Martin, Madison, Regan, Creedon, and Kainen; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
She was born and raised in the Eldridge, Missouri community. After she and Gene were married, they made their home in the Lebanon area and lovingly raised their children. In addition to being a devoted homemaker to her husband and family, Marie also worked in the garment manufacturing business for many years. She first began working for Reliance, which then became the Rice Stix Factory, and continued to work for them when they became the H. D. Lee Company. Marie retired from H. D. Lee in 1988. Later, she worked for House of Ivey Floral Shop and Greenhouse for a few years.
Marie made her profession of faith in Christ at an early age, and was currently attending North Highway Five Freewill Baptist Church. She was a great admirer of Rev. Gary Sheets and his ministry.
In her spare time she enjoyed quilting for her grandchildren, going to the lake, and fishing. She had a compassionate and helpful demeanor and a “tell it like it is” personality. Her family was very important to her and she greatly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Marie was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and know that her family and friends will cherish the wonderful memories she created for them throughout the years.
