Kayla A. Wooten (Seymour)'s Obituary
Hearts were broken Friday evening, August 28, 2015, when beloved mother, daughter and sister, Kayla Wooten, departed this earthly life surrounded by loved ones at her home in Seymour, Missouri. Far too young, but now free from the pain and suffering of a courageous year-long battle with cancer, Kayla was twenty-one years, six months and twenty-eight days at the time of her passing.
One of two daughters, she was born Kayla Ashtin Wooten on February 4, 1994, to Carl and Melissa (Scholten) Wooten in St. Joseph, Missouri. She was raised in Seymour and was a graduate of the Seymour High School Class of 2012. She was an active high school student, participating in cheerleading, BETA, softball, band, FCA and FCCLA. After high school, she attended Ozark Technical College in Springfield, Missouri, to study nursing. While in school, she worked at Cox South Hospital as a medical transporter. Kayla was preceded in death by her paternal grandmother, Freda D. Wooten; her maternal great-grandfather, Ben Joe Rumans; paternal great-grandfather, Burley Albert Wooten; and paternal great-grandparents, Everett and Pearl West. Kayla leaves behind the joy of her life, son, Grayson Matthew Wooten; her mother, Melissa Lansdown and husband, Kenny, of Seymour, Missouri; her father, Carl Wooten and wife, Julie, of Elkland, Missouri; her sister, Jessica Wooten, who is currently serving in the United States Air Force, and her husband, Morgun Yogore; step-siblings, Jamey Lansdown and family, Wytney Steelman and Family, and Jared and Colton Hogue; maternal grandparents, Deryl and Holly Parrish of Bolivar, Missouri; paternal grandparents, Terry and Linda Wooten of Merriam, Kansas; maternal great-grandmother, Shirley Rumans of Owensville, Missouri; paternal great-grandmother, Betty Wooten of Pleasant Hope, Missouri; best friend, Chrissy Bowen of Seymour; many aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family; and many, many more dear friends and faithful supporters. Kayla’s whole heart and world belonged to her son, Grayson. She was a fun-loving and devoted mother despite failing health. They were rarely apart. Kayla also loved sunflowers and grew them yearly. She was saved at a young age at Diggins Baptist Church and then baptized in 2011 at Cedar Gap Baptist Church where she was a member. To say that Kayla was strong in her faith and trust in the Lord, and His plan for her, is an understatement. It was her strength that carried her family through this journey. Kayla has left us much too soon, but memories and moments she shared with family and friends will be in hearts forever. She will be so deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Kayla will forever be young; Kayla will forever be beautiful; and now she will forever be Grayson’s ‘Mom Mom Angel’ in Heaven watching over him for all of his years.
Memorials are suggested to the Grayson Wooten College Fund and may be left at the funeral home.
