Kenneth Chappell's Obituary
Kenneth Walter Chappell, son of Walter R. and Dora Pauline Van Patton Chappell, was born December 25, 1932, in Provo, Utah. He departed this life Monday, August 25, 2008, in St. John’s Hospital, in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of seventy-five years and eight months. On October 22, 1956, he was united in marriage to Leota Rae Pitt, and to this union three daughters and one son were born. His parents preceded him in death. Kenneth is survived by his loving wife of fifty-one years, Leota, of the home; three daughters, Jodi Cohn, and her husband, David, of Peoria, Illinois, Linda Allred, of Jackson, Mississippi, and Kaylyn Rappleano, and her husband, Timothy, of Columbia, Missouri; a son, Kenneth L. Chappell, and his wife, Tammy, of Lebanon, Missouri; three grandchildren, Kenna, Doug, and Daveigh; two great-grandchildren, Kenneth and Shawn; two sisters, Charmaine Atwell, of the State of Utah, and Laurel Skaggs, of the State of Texas; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. He was born and raised in Utah, and then entered the military as a young man. He served his country faithfully in the United States Army during the Korean War. After being honorably discharged from the Army, he and Leota made their home in Utah and Wyoming, before moving to Missouri in 1972. Kenneth worked as a truck driver for more than forty years and was employed by Ranger Transportation for the last seventeen of those years. He had earned the One-Million Mile Safe Driver award in 1993, and was named Driver of the Year in 1992 and Contractor of the Year in both 1992 and 1993. Kenneth was a member of the Teamsters Local # 142 for many years. In retirement, he worked for Stiles Roofing, where he made many new friends and acquaintances. In his spare time he enjoyed being outdoors where his favorite activities were gardening and caring for his yard, in which he took great pride. He also had worked many hours restoring a vintage truck. He was especially fond of cats and would often take in stray kittens. His family was very important to him and he was very proud of all of them. Kenneth was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and will remember him as a devoted family man, and a true patriotic citizen. Services will be held at 10:00am onThursday August 28, 2008 at the Holman- Howe Funeral Home, Lebanon. Burial will be in Mt. Rose Memorial Park. Visitation is Wed. evening from 7-8:30 pm under the direction of the Holman- Howe Funeral Home Lebanon, Missouri.A memorial has been established to the American Heart association and the Lebanon Humane Society and donations may be made through the funeral home.
