Kim Alan Schwanke (Buffalo)'s Obituary
Kim Alan Schwanke went home to his Savior Jesus Christ on April 1, 2025, in his home surrounded by his loving family. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, laughter, and love.
Kim was born to Elmer and Betty (Chance) Schwanke on February 23, 1953 in Gary, Indiana. As a child, his family moved to Louisburg, MO where he went to primary school and later graduated from Buffalo High School. At a young age, he enjoyed playing sports, particularly football. He spent his life dedicated to his family, his land, and the simple joys that made every day meaningful.
He had a deep love for putting up hay, a task he took pride in and did with skill, dedication, and the occasional baler fire. He had an unparalleled work ethic, a trait he passed on to his children and grandchildren. But just as much as he worked, he loved to tell stories—tales from his younger days that were sometimes wild, often hilarious, and always unforgettable. His sharp wit and knack for a well-timed joke could bring a room to laughter in an instant.
More than anything, he was proud of his children and grandchildren, speaking of their accomplishments with a twinkle in his eye and a full heart. Through every challenge and every joy, Jay, his longtime partner of over 25 years, was by his side—his rock, his love, and his greatest support.
He is survived by his partner of 26 years Jay Hernandez, his children Kyle (Retha) Schwanke of Louisburg, MO, Ashley (Travis) Durfee of Watkins Glen, NY, Amanda (John) Giedinghagen, of Marshfield, MO and Crystal Davis of Branson, MO; grandchildren Rhiannon (Chris) Britt, Isobel Scheffey, Britton (Evan) Maddux, Brett Schwanke, David Patterson, Kurtis Schwanke, Benson Patterson, Brooklyn Davis, Conner Schwanke, Isla Durfee, Zoe Giedinghagen, Sasha Durfee, Logan and Lily Giedinghagen; multiple great- grandchildren and many dear friends and family who will miss him beyond words.
He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Craig and Jill Schwanke, and his son, Christopher Schwanke.
A service to celebrate his life will be held on Friday, April 4th, 2025 at Calvary Chapel in Buffalo, MO. Visitation begins and 10 am with Memorial to immediately follow at 11 am. In honor of his memory, those who knew him best might find comfort in sharing a story, telling a joke, or spending a little extra time in the hayfield, just as he would have wanted.
He was one of a kind, and his spirit will live on in the laughter and love of those he leaves behind.
