L. Michalene Engleman (Bolivar)'s Obituary
Michalene Vaughn Engleman was born November 21, 1914 in Hickory County Missouri, the daughter of James Orlie and Alma Fowler Vaughn. She passed from this life on November 7, 2015.
Michalene graduated from Hermitage schools and attended Springfield Teachers College. She taught school in one-room schools in Hickory and Polk Counties for eight years. In 1939, she was united in marriage to John Engleman and to their union two sons were born, D.Ray Engleman in 1941 and Johnny Engleman in 1945.
John and Michalene moved to Michigan in 1946 where they managed and worked in sales for the Vaughn Department stores in Eaton Rapids and Greenville for thirty years. Michalene retired in 1978 and she and John returned to Bolivar to be near family and friends. She was a life-time member of the Eastern Star, Princess Chapter of Greenville. After John’s passing in 1995, Michalene especially treasured her close relationships with her three sisters, Vivian Reichert, Eva Mae (Patty) Button and Shirley Viles.
Michalene remained vibrant and active, living in her own home until the age of 96 after which she resided in Butterfield Assisted Living and Parkview Health Care Facility until her passing. Michalene became the first in her family to reach the venerable age of 100 in November 2014.
She was preceded in death by her father, mother, three young siblings, her husband, brother Ross Vaughn, and sisters Vivian and Patty. She is survived by her sons D.Ray and Johnny, their wives, four grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Also surviving is her sister, Shirley Viles and many nieces, nephews and friends.
