L. Alene Smith (Bolivar)'s Obituary
Lois Alene Murray Smith departed this life on Wednesday, June 26, 2019. She was born on October 4, 1929, the second of twin daughters, to Maurice and Bess (Sherman) Murray, at Walnut Grove, Missouri. The family moved to Springfield, Missouri, when the twins were in seventh grade.
Alene Murray met Bob Smith at Grant Avenue Baptist Church while he was attending Southwest Missouri State. They were married on May 6, 1951. To this union three children were born. The family moved to Bolivar, Missouri, in August of 1960. Bob took up a teaching position at Southwest Baptist College, and a few years later Alene began working in the college library, a position she filled for more than twenty years. Bob and Alene joined First Baptist Church in Bolivar in 1960 and remained members there until their deaths.
Alene was preceded in death by her husband Robert Dean Smith in May of 2017. She is survived by her twin sister Frances Elaine Murray Fleming of Cape Coral, Florida; a daughter, Carol Elaine Wright and her husband William; two sons, Robert Smith and his wife Carolyn, and David Smith and his wife Loree; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Alene’s favorite pastimes were reading and crocheting. She had a special fondness for puns and wordplay. She sang in the choir at First Baptist Church in Bolivar for many years, and she helped in the church’s library. Most importantly, Alene was a Christian. Her family and friends will miss her and live in hope of being reunited with her in Heaven.
Funeral Services for Alene Smith will be held Saturday, June 29, 2019 at 10 Am at the Butler funeral Home in Bolivar, MO. A visitation will be held the hour prior. Burial services will be held at White Chapel Cemetery in Springfield, MO.
