Larry G. Mahan (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Larry Gale Mahan, son of Harold M. and Freida L. Purvines Mahan, was born September 2, 1949, in Kirkwood, Missouri. He departed this life Wednesday, April 20, 2011, in St. John’s Hospital, in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of sixty-one years, seven months, and eighteen days.
On October 11, 1968, he was united in marriage to Beverly Ann Stewart, and to this union one daughter and one son were born.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Beverly, on October 6, 2008; and a brother, Gordon Mahan.
Larry is survived by a daughter, Christy Jennings, and her husband, Michael, of Lebanon, Missouri; a son, Brett Mahan, of Lebanon, Missouri; five grandchildren, Scott Mahan, Lindsey and Christian Watson, Cory and Lucas Jennings; two brothers, Micky Mahan, of San Antonio, Texas, and Hal Mahan, of Springfield, Missouri; a sister, Ramona Braun, of Ventura, California; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was born in Missouri, and raised in New Jersey and San Leandro, California. The family then moved to Lebanon, Missouri, in 1967, and Larry graduated from Lebanon High School. After he and Beverly were married, they made their home in the Lebanon area, and lovingly raised their children. Larry was a very successful, diversified entrepreneur and among his many endeavors, he worked as an aerial photographer, a real estate salesman, was a business owner, and a day trader.
Larry had made his profession of faith in Christ.
In his younger years, he enjoyed fishing, and he liked going to horse races, playing Pinochle with his family and telling stories to everyone. Through his own and Beverly’s battles with cancer, he had gained a great deal of insight and knowledge which he used to help others in their own fights with cancer. He also enjoyed spending time at his computer and was very adept at fixing almost anything. His family was very important to him and he especially enjoyed his grandchildren.
Larry was a loving father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and his accomplishments, and know that his family and friends will treasure the wonderful memories he made for them throughout the years.
