Larry Hanning's Obituary
Larry Gene Hanning, son of Charley A. and Verna Era Matthews Hanning, was born April 22, 1949, in Dayton, Washington. He departed this life Tuesday, April 6, 2010, in his home, near Lynchburg, Missouri, at the age of sixty years, eleven months, and fourteen days. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Darrell Hanning; and a sister, Janet Sergent. Larry is survived by three brothers, David Hanning, and his wife, Sarah, Lewis Hanning, and his wife, Deana, and Stanley Hanning, all of Lynchburg, Missouri; a sister, Ferrie Sapp, and her husband, Eddie, of Lynchburg, Missouri; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. He was born in the State of Washington, and then moved with his family to the Lynchburg, Missouri area when he was a child. He worked for a time at a fence post manufacturing plant, and then entered the military. He served his country faithfully in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. After being honorably discharged from the Army, he returned to Lynchburg, and worked as a diesel mechanic at Lebanon Farm Equipment Company for thirteen years. He continued to work as a mechanic for as long as his health allowed. Larry had professed his faith in Christ and was a member of Pine Creek Baptist Church. In his spare time he enjoyed being outdoors where his favorite activities were fishing and camping. He also liked fixing and building things. He possessed a gift for numbers and was a whiz at mathematics. His family was very important to him and he always thought of others ahead of himself. Larry was a loving brother, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and know that he will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all of his family and friends. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday April 10, 2010 at the Pine Creek Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Pine Creek Cemetery. Visitation is Friday evening 6-7:30 p.m. at the funeral home under the direction of the Holman-Howe Funeral Home Lebanon, Missouri. A memorial has been established to the Diabetes Foundation.
