Larry Gene Hobson (Bolivar)'s Obituary
Larry Gene Hobson, 80, known to many as Poppy, left us unexpectedly on October 9, 2023. After six months without Juanita, he has been reunited with her to spend eternity together.
Larry was born on February 4th, 1943 in Polk County, Missouri to Ray and Veda Hobson. He worked for Foremost Dairy and Orval Davis Tire in Bolivar, Missouri before starting Husky Supply which delivered farm products for H&H Farm Supply across the United States. Larry enjoyed his farm, his chickens, working the land with his tractor, and attending all the local auctions. A lot of his retirement time was spent drinking complimentary coffee at Chuck’s Auto Supply in Bolivar.
Larry was the youngest of four siblings growing up the majority of his life in Polk County. He met Juanita early in life and they married in July of 1962. They enjoyed 60+ years of marriage in Bolivar and on their farm. Those years were full of travel, camping, raising dozens of different animals, and enjoying life with their kids, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Larry and Juanita’s union soon brought two strong-willed daughters into the world, Brenda and Pamela. The four of them enjoyed countless hours at the Hobson farm, lake days at Pomme de Terre, trail rides at Chadwick Motorcycle and ATV Use Area, and cross country trips to California for family visits and off-road riding in the Mojave desert. Larry was an avid slalom skier and spent many weekends on the lake with Juanita and the girls.
Larry was a man of few words, but always kept his grandchildren laughing. Between Mel Brooks movies and quotes, incorrect jingle bell lyrics, and watching scary movies together, he always left an impression. The grandchildren spent hours playing on his gooseneck trailer, playing hide-and-seek with the TV remote, feeding the fish, and riding around the entire farm with him in the side by side.
After a few years, Larry graduated from Grandpa to Poppy when the great grandchildren were born. Throughout the last several years, the great grandchildren have enjoyed the entire farm next to him, learned to appreciate The Grit channel and Inspire network, as well as settling in for any special episodes of LivePD. They loved Poppy so very deeply.
Larry was proceeded in death by his wife of 60 years, Juanita, his parents, his siblings Margie Brooks and Glenn Hobson, and his granddaughter Anastasia Brewer.
He is survived by his sister, EmmaJean Agee, his children Brenda Nunn and Pamela Hood (Mark Hood), Grandchildren, Cheri Fisher (Brian Fisher), Kamron Hood (KK Bayer), Tyler Scheller, and Ana Hood, and his Great Grandchildren, Cash Fisher, Jackson Fisher, Juanito Depaz, Teagan Bayer, Brock Bayer, Emily Kirklin, Timothy Kirklin, JB Xiong, and Joyce Xiong.
Family will be holding a service at a later date.
