Larry Mines' Obituary
Larry Paul Mines, son of Paul R. and Julia F. Arnold Mines, was born February 7, 1937, in Sedalia, Missouri. He departed this life Friday, February 10, 2012, in his home, in Gladstone, Missouri, at the age of seventy-five years, and three days. On October 9, 1998, he was united in marriage to Beverly Sue Cornelison, and they shared the last thirteen years. His parents preceded him in death. Larry is survived by his wife, Beverly, of the home; a son, Kent Mines, and his wife, Karla, of Liberty, Missouri; a daughter, Stephanie Owen, of Grandview, Missouri; two grandchildren, Noah Kent and Alaina Beth Mines; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. He was born and raised in Sedalia, Missouri, and graduated from Smith-Cotton High School in the Class of 1955. He then earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Central Missouri State University, in Warrensburg, Missouri. He served his country faithfully in the United States Army from October 9, 1959, until February 7, 1962. After being honorably discharged from the military, he worked in petroleum marketing for Phillips Petroleum Company in Bartlesville, Oklahoma for eighteen years. He then was employed by Farmland Industries in Kansas City, Missouri for twenty years. He and Beverly made their home in the Gladstone area for the last several years, and enjoyed their retirement. Larry was a member of the Epworth United Methodist Church in Sedalia, Missouri, and then later attended First United Methodist Church in Independence, Missouri. He was a member of American Legion Post # 16 in Sedalia, Missouri, and was an accomplished catcher on their baseball league in his younger years. He also played baseball while he was at C.M.S.U. In his spare time he enjoyed watching NASCAR and Missouri University Basketball. He greatly enjoyed being outdoors where his favorite activities were playing golf, fishing and quail hunting. He also liked caring for his home. His family was very important to him and he especially enjoyed his grandchildren. Larry was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and know that his family and friends will treasure the wonderful memories he made for them throughout the years.
