Larry Whitten's Obituary
Lawrence “Larry” Wayne Whitten, son of Wilborn Otis and Anna Ruth Sorrell Whitten, was born January 2, 1964, in Chicago, Illinois. He departed this life Thursday, October 4, 2007, as the result of an automobile accident near Falcon, Missouri, at the age of forty-three years, nine months, and two days, On May 9, 1992, he was united in marriage to Melissa Kay Barker and together they shared the last eighteen years. He was preceded in death by his father, and a son, Joshua Ray Barker. Larry is survived by his wife, Melissa, of the home; a daughter, Melinda Whitten, of the home; a son, Jason Barker, of the home; his mother, Anna Ruth Whitten, of Falcon, Missouri; three brothers, Bobby Whitten, of Falcon, Missouri, and Otis and Roy Whitten, both of Lebanon, Missouri; a sister, Delores Payne, of Lebanon, Missouri; a half-sister, Gloria Joyce, Godfree, Illinois; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. He was born and raised in the Chicago, Illinois area. In 1980, he moved with his family to the Falcon, Missouri community, and then served his country faithfully in the United States Army for six years. After he and Melissa were married, they made their home near Lebanon and lovingly raised their family. Larry had worked as a truck driver and mechanic for several years. In his spare time he enjoyed being outdoors where his favorite activities were hunting and fishing. He was a big fan of the NASCAR races, and also liked spending time on the computer. He possessed a delightful sense of humor and loved to laugh. Larry was a loving husband, father, son, brother, and uncle and was a caring neighbor and friend. He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 8, 2007, in the Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Lebanon. Burial will be in the Eureka Cemetery, near Rader, Missouri. Visitation will be held Sunday evening from 4 - 5:30 p.m. under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Lebanon, Missouri.
