Launa Hughes' Obituary
Launa Susan Hughes, age 90, of Bolivar, Missouri passed away on Friday, February 12, 2010 at Citizen’s Memorial Hospital in Bolivar, Missouri. She was born March 12, 1919 near Walnut Grove, Missouri to Thomas Blaine Hicks and Gladys Eva (Davis) Hicks. She was united in marriage to Harry Clayton Hughes on December 9, 1944. They had one son, Thomas Clayton Hughes. She was a kind and loving wife and mother. Harry preceded her in death on November 15, 2008. She graduated from Walnut Grove High School and attended Southwest Missouri State College for 3 years. She became a teacher in the Polk County School System. After teaching for a few years, she was employed as a deputy recorder and ex-officio circuit clerk for Polk County. She also worked for the US Department of Agriculture and retired after 20 years of service. She was a member of the General Federal Women’s Club of Missouri and the First Christian Church of Bolivar, Missouri. She is survived by her son, Thomas Clayton Hughes and his wife April of Anaheim, California, five grandchildren, Alexander Hughes and his wife Claudia of San Jose, California, David Hughes of Las Vegas, Nevada, Christine Hughes of Oakland, California, Kate Hughes of Anaheim, California, Matt Hughes of Anaheim, California, two great granddaughters, Avery Hughes, Gemma Hughes, and one great grandson Owen Hughes, and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Blaine Hicks and Gladys Eva Davis Hicks, one brother, Thomas Blaine Hicks, Jr., and a sister, Mary Evelyn Hicks Smoot. Funeral services will be 10:00am, Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at the Butler Funeral Home in Bolivar, Missouri with Reverend Jerry Book officiating. Musical selections will be “His Eye Is On The Sparrow” and “In The Garden” Visitation will be from 9:00-10:00am prior to service time at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Bolivar, Missouri under the care and direction of the Butler Funeral Home of Bolivar. Pallbearers will be Robert Kifer, Nick Maas, John Robert Smith, John Polk Campbell, Charles Stanek, and David Stutenkemper. Honorary pallbearers will be Winton Allison, O’Neal Scott, Bob Beason, Charles Johnson, Dean McMillin, Charley York and Lewis Gordon. Memorial contributions may be made in honor of Launa to the First Christian Church in Bolivar, Missouri.
