LaVan Winder (Bolivar)'s Obituary
The Old Cowboy, “Van” Winder, took his last ride Wednesday October 19, 2016. He passed peacefully in his sleep surrounded by his wife, and 3 daughter. LaVan Dale Winder was born the youngest of 13 children on December 2, 1934 at Desert Lake, Emery County, Utah to Charles William and Caroline Elizabeth Mills Winder. He is proceeded in death by his son, Thairn Cord Winder, 11 siblings, and his parents.
He is survived by his wife Lou Winder of the home, sister Zina Tabor Price Utah, children and grandchildren. Daughters: Jadonna Rice and her husband Wayne, Sondra Starbird, Kayla Rippee and husband Steven, Rebecca Wicklund and husband Kelly. His grandchildren: Kiefer Starbird, Conner Starbird, Ryan Rippee, William Lane Rippee, Dallas Wicklund, Brody Wicklund and wife Maggie, Shanteal Lace Wicklund, and Koda Wicklund.
Van was raised in Price, Utah till the age of 15. Then he traveled with his brother, Phil, to Missouri. He worked in sells for several years with Pepsi Cole and Highland Dairy. He gave his heart to Ella Lou Winder on May 31, 1960 when they were married. They bought a farm in Bolivar shortly after. He worked for several years as over the road truck driver for National Oil, Milky Way, and Vance Brothers. Then April fool’s Day 1973 Van and Lou bought Hilltop Restaurant. In 1977 they added a fleet of Catering Trucks to the business. His life passion was farming and his cattle.
