LaVern Neena Rumfelt (Hartville)'s Obituary
Neema LaVern Rumfelt, daughter of Wheeler A. and Ora Fielding Fletcher, was born February 12, 1917, in Wright County, Missouri. She departed this life Sunday, June 1, 2014 in Christian Health Care South, Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of ninety-seven years, three months, and nineteen days.
On October 12, 1940, LaVern was united in marriage to Dorman Alfred Rumfelt, and to this union five children were born.
LaVern was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dorman, on August 12, 1972; a granddaughter, Tina Cole; two grandsons, Faron Moore and Wayne Rumfelt; two great-grandchildren, James Moore and James Thomas Moore; three brothers, Normice Fletcher, Kermit Fletcher, and Kirby Fletcher; as well as a sister, Glendean Branstetter.
She is survived by her children, Mary Moore of Rader, Missouri, David Rumfelt and wife Susan, of Hartville, Missouri, John Rumfelt and wife Janice, of Graff, Missouri, Jeannine Bunch and husband Joe, of Conway, Missouri, and Joan Dillard of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; fifteen grandchildren; forty-nine great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jake Fletcher and wife Azalee, of Manes, Missouri, and Ralph Fletcher and wife Wanda, of Manes, Missouri; a sister, Jewel Foley of Visalia, California; two sisters-in-law, Arlene Fletcher of Farmington, Missouri, and Audrey Gourley of Hartville, Missouri; as well as a number of nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
LaVern was born in Wright County and was a graduate of the Mountain Grove High School. She attended Drury College and earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education there. LaVern started her teaching career working out of a one-room school house and eventually retired from Hartville High School on July 1, 1981. Following her retirement, LaVern made her home on the farm until her health forced her to move closer to her family.
LaVern had accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age and was a member of the Manes Baptist Church.
She was also a member of the Wright County Retired Teachers Organization.
In her spare time, LaVern enjoyed quilting, reading, working in her flower garden, and working crossword puzzles.
LaVern was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and accomplishments and will treasure the many wonderful memories she has created for her family and many dear friends.
Memorial contributions made to Cold Water Cemetery and left at the funeral home.
