Lawrence Cron's Obituary
Lawrence “Joe” Cron, son of James Carl and Bonnie Irene (Gallion) Cron, was born October 14, 1941, in South Gate, California. He departed this life Sunday, November 2, 2008, in his home, in Seymour, Missouri, at the age of sixty-seven years, and nineteen days.
On July 29, 1972 he was united in marriage to Retha Mae Powell and together they have spent the last thirty-six years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Richard Cron; two half-brothers, John and Anthony Suraco.
Joe is survived by his wife, Retha, of the home; two sons, Ron Cron, and his wife, Ursula, of Northview, Missouri, and Zeb Cron, and his wife, Dahna, of Seymour, Missouri; a daughter, Stacey Cron, of Rome, Georgia; six grandchildren, Madeline, Cassie, LaKisha, Crystal, Denise and Isaac; several great-grandchildren; three brothers, James Carl Cron, and his wife, Beverly, of Buffalo, Missouri, Glen Cron, and his wife, La Rita, of Fordland, Missouri, and Leonard Cron, and his wife, Rita, of Filer, Idaho; one half-brother, Kenneth Cron, of the state of California; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and many dear friends.
He was born in California and moved in his youth to Fordland, Missouri. He later moved back to California, where he met and married Retha. While living in California they owned and operated Cron’s Meat Shop for many years.
He was a pipe fitter and welder and a member of the Pipe Fitters Union in California. He was also a member of the Mount Olive Masonic Lodge #439 AF and AM, of Rogersville, the Valley of Joplin Scottish Rite, York Rite, the Abou Ben Adhem Shrine, Ridge Runners, and the Christian County Shrine Club. He had received the KCCH Scottish Rite Reward for his work with the Shriners.
Joe loved being on the cook crew for the Christian County Shriners and barbequing for the Shrine clubs and all of his friends. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Lawrence was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and accomplishments and will treasure the memories he has created for his family and friends.
According to his request no services are being held. A memorial has been established to Mount Olive Lodge’s Senior Citizens Christmas Dinner in care of Holman-Howe Funeral Home, P.O. Box 366, Seymour, Missouri 65746.
