Lawrence Powers' Obituary
awrence Earl Powers, son of William Henry and Edith Mae Chapman Powers, was born September 25, 1928 in New London, Connecticut. He departed this life Sunday, May 4, 2008 in Cox Medical Center South, Springfield, Missouri at the age of seventy-nine years, seven months, and nine days. On April 5, 1953, Lawrence was united in marriage to Delores Joan Nielsen and together they have shared the past fifty-five years. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Alan Powers; a grandson, Matthew Green; and three sisters, Ethel, Dorothy and Irene. He is survived by his wife, Delores, of the home; four children, Jerry Powers and his wife, Jennifer and Kenneth Powers and his wife, Debra, all of Denver, Colorado, Randal Powers and his fiancée, Margaret Henry, and Tammy Cornelison and her husband, Rick, all of Seymour, Missouri; ten grandchildren, Lena, Amie, Jessica, Michael, Steven, Stephanie, Justin, Wyatt, Dakota and Noah; ten great-grandchildren, and one to be born on Wednesday, May 7, 2008; one nephew and two nieces; a host of other relatives and many dear friends. Lawrence was born and raised in New London. After being honorably discharged from the United States Navy, he resided in Holtville, California where he met and married Delores. In 1957, he and Delores moved to Denver, Colorado and then to Seymour in 1973, where they made their home and lovingly raised their family. Lawrence had made his profession of faith in Christ and was of the Methodist faith. In his spare time, Lawrence enjoyed fishing and gardening, and had a great appreciation for the outdoors. He also loved to do mechanic work, and enjoyed fixing all types of motorized vehicles. Lawrence was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and accomplishments and will treasure the wonderful memories he has created for his family and many dear friends. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2008, in the Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Seymour. Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield, Missouri. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 7 - 8:00 p.m. under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Seymour, Missouri. Return to top
