He departed this life Sunday, January 10, 2010, in Christian Health Care South, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of eighty-four years, one month, and fifteen days. On May 1, 1952, he was united in marriage to Bonnie B. Buck, and to this union one son and one daughter were born. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Eugene Ervin; and four sisters, Opal Haney, Hazel Dolan, Ruby Hefton, and Daisy Ervin. Lee is survived by his loving wife of fifty-seven years, Bonnie, of the home; a son, Mike Ervin, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; a daughter, Teresa King, and her husband, Steve, of Lebanon, Missouri; a granddaughter, Courtney King, of Kirksville, Missouri; a sister, Gladys Longan, of Republic, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. He was born and raised in the Phillipsburg community and attended Phillipsburg Schools. He entered the military as a young man, and served his country faithfully in the United States Army during World War II. He was a member of the 10th Mountain Division and was stationed in Italy for part of the war. After being honorably discharged from the Army, Lee returned to the Lebanon area, where he and Bonnie made their home and lovingly raised their family. His father trained him in carpentry skills and he also operated a service station for a few years. He worked in automobile sales for over twenty-two years, with many years at Lindsay Chevrolet. Lee was a member of the Church of Christ and was active in the Hayes Street Church of Christ for as long as his health allowed. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 4107 in Lebanon. The hobby that brought him the most pleasure was playing Bluegrass music, particularly with the “Bluegrass Express”. He played the guitar and spent many happy hours making music with his friends. His family was very important to him and he especially enjoyed his granddaughter, who called him “Papa”. Lee was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and know that his family and friends will treasure the wonderful memories he made for them throughout the years.
