Leland Jared Hughes, Jr. (Urbana)'s Obituary
Leland Jared “Jay” Hughes, Jr., son of the late Leland Jared and Molly Helen (Owens) Hughes, was born on July 20, 1928 in Chariton Co, MO, and departed this life on September 16, 2017 at his home near Louisburg, MO. At the time of his passing he was 89 years, 1month, and 25 days of age.
Jay was born and raised in Keytisville, MO. He moved to California in 1960 to work in management for a blow molding company. He was united in marriage to Kay Saunders in February of 1983 in La Mirada, CA. After his retirement in 1996, he moved his family back to Missouri and bought his beloved farm where he enjoyed driving his John Deere tractor and riding his favorite horse.
Leland was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters. He is survived by his wife Kay of the home; seven children, 20 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one brother. He also leaves other family members and many friends who will all truly miss him.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 22, 2017 at the Mission Ridge Cemetery under the direction of the Cantlon Otterness Funeral Home of Buffalo. Escorts will be family and friends in attendance. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Red Cross and left at the Funeral Home.
