Lenvil S. Mooney (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Lenvil Sylvan Mooney, son of Sylvan and Pearl Gouge Mooney, was born May 27, 1937, near Stoutland, Missouri. He departed this life Sunday, February 14, 2021, in his home, near Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of eighty-three years, eight months, and eighteen days.
On June 20, 1959, he was united in marriage to Hilda Marie Wilson, and to this union two daughters were born. He and Hilda shared sixty-one wonderful years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Gary Mooney, and an infant brother, Billy Gouge.
Lenvil is survived by his loving wife, Hilda, of the home; two daughters, Brenda Miller, and her husband, Steve, of Lebanon, Missouri, and Melinda Lumley, and her husband, Jamey, of Marshfield, Missouri; four grandchildren, Chelsea Gottman, McKenzie Starnes, and her husband, Aaron, Tessa Lumley, Tara Lumley, and Britni Coffey, who was lovingly thought of as a granddaughter; six great-grandchildren, Chloe, Gavin, and Kenley Gottman, Sage, Maddox, and Maisley Starnes; three sisters, Lucille Garrison, of Springfield, Missouri, Linda Howe, and her husband, Jim, of Bolivar, Missouri, and Beverly Breeden, and her husband, Richard, of Waynesville, Missouri; a sister-in-law, Pat Mooney, of Richland, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and many friends.
He was born and raised in the Stoutland community, and graduated from Stoutland High School with the Class of 1955. He then attended Technical Training College in Kansas City, Missouri, majoring in Mechanics. After graduation, he worked for Caterpillar in Joliet, Illinois, later returning to Missouri to work at Fort Leonard Wood. In 1960, Lenvil began serving his country in the National Guard, serving six months active duty at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.
Once he and Hilda were married, he worked for Consumers Market for a time and then went to work for General Gas Company as office manager. The company later merged with Empire Gas Company where Lenvil remained an employee until he was presented with the opportunity to buy a share of Lebanon Farm Equipment Company. To him, that was the opportunity of a lifetime, and he jumped at the chance. Eventually, A.C. Brockman joined the company and he and Lenvil became partners in the equipment company for twenty-five years, selling and servicing Case IH, Farmall, Ford New Holland, CubCadet and others.
Lenvil was honored to be appointed to the board of MFA Oil Company, where he served for several years. Lenvil’s passion was for farming and he operated an Angus cattle farm on the five generation/century farm where Hilda was born. This is where they would live out their sixty-one year marriage and lovingly raise their family.
Lenvil was saved at a young age at Stoutland Baptist Church and then baptized in Sellers Creek, near Richland, Missouri. He and Hilda were members of Antioch Baptist Church, where he was an active member and served as deacon. In recent years, they attended Calvary Baptist Church and the Second Milers Group at Second Baptist Church, enjoying fellowship with both.
In younger years, he enjoyed coon hunting, gigging, and fishing. The family enjoyed many special times at their lake house that they co-owned with friends, until due to declining health they made the decision to sell.
Lenvil and Hilda loved to travel and traveled as much as possible, visiting England, Holland, Mexico, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, Bahama’s, Alaska, Ireland, Canada, and had visited all except for three states in the U.S.A.
Most of all, Lenvil loved his family with his whole heart, especially spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Lenvil was a loving husband, father, Papa, Pepaw, brother, and caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and know that the wonderful memories made with his family and friends will be treasured forever.
