Leo Wright's Obituary
eo Eugene Wright, son of Austin Everett and Eva Lavina (Howard) Wright, was born July 23, 1924 in Pansy, (Douglas County) Missouri. He departed this life Monday, May 19, 2008 in Webco Manor in Marshfield, Missouri at the age of eighty-three years, nine months, twenty-six days. On February 15, 1947 he was united in marriage to Thelma MaryJane Hargus in Girard, Kansas, and to this union seven children were born. Leo was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Thelma on March 6, 2005; a son, Marvin Leroy Wright; a granddaughter, Mary F. Miller; a grandson, Asa Ragsdale; and two sisters, Irene Epps and Laverne Owen. He is survived by six children, Gloria Ragsdale and her husband Jim, of Diggins, Missouri, Sandra Miller and her husband Joe, of Niangua, Missouri, Lyle Wright and his wife Sue, of Seymour, Missouri, Leland Wright and his wife Sandy, of Marshfield, Missouri, Kathryn Owens and her husband Ken, of Diggins, Missouri, and Angie Watson and her husband Mike, of Fordland, Missouri; eighteen grandchildren; thirty-nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Gerald Wright, of Ava, Missouri; two sisters, Josephine Peebles, of Ava, Missouri and Norma Lambert, of East Moline, Illinois; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. Leo grew up in Douglas County, Missouri and on July 27, 1943, he joined the United States Navy and served his country faithfully until honorably discharged on March 25, 1947. After his discharge from the Navy and his marriage to Thelma, they made their home in Springfield, Missouri, for a few years and then returned to the family farm in Douglas County. The family eventually moved back to Springfield to make their home. Following Thelma’s death he moved to Marshfield, Missouri. He worked as a Grade Checker in road construction for many years and was a member of Local #676 (663) Laborers’ International Union of North America. Leo had made his profession of faith in God and followed the Baptist faith throughout his life. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, coin collecting, and reading. He loved the outdoors and watching the beauty of nature and could tell you the names of different birds, trees, and other plants. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and accomplishments and will cherish the wonderful memories he created for his family and friends. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 22, 2008, in the Holman-Howe Chapel, Seymour, Missouri. Burial will be in the Gentry Cemetery, north of Diggins, Missouri. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 7 - 8:00 p.m. under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Seymour, Missouri. Return to top
