Leon C Epps, Sr. (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Leon Cecil Epps, Sr., son of Charles Vernon and Reva Mable Brake Epps, was born February 28, 1935, in Roy, Missouri. He departed this life Sunday, April 1, 2018, in his home, near Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of eighty-three years, one month, and three days.
On August 11, 1956, he was united in marriage to Margaret Priscilla Otto, and to this union four daughters and two sons were born.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Leroy Epps; and a sister, Erlene Smith.
Leon is survived by his loving wife of sixty-one years, Margaret, of the home; two sons, Leon Epps, Jr., and his wife, Darla, of Lynn, Missouri, and Terry Epps, and his wife, Jean, of Chattanooga, Tennessee; four daughters, Linda Evans, Tracy McKenney, and Trudy O’Dell, and her husband, Scott, all of Lebanon, Missouri, and Lori Hebron, and her husband, Brian, of Des Moines, Iowa; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Danny Epps, of Jefferson City, Missouri; a sister, Sharon Ellsworth, of Des Moines, Iowa; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was born in Missouri and was raised in Missouri and California. He then made his home in Des Moines, Iowa. Leon entered the military as a young man and served his country faithfully in the United States Army for several years. After being honorably discharged, he returned to Des Moines, where he and Margaret made their home and began raising their family. Leon was a forklift operator for the Eagle Iron Works Company and also worked at the Hartford Community School in Hartford, Iowa. In the late 1990’s, Leon retired and he and Margaret moved to Laclede, Missouri. About four years ago, they moved to Lebanon and made their home.
In his spare time he enjoyed playing pool, fishing, and working puzzles. His family was very important to him and he especially enjoyed all of his grandchildren.
Leon was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and know that his family and friends will treasure the wonderful memories he made for them during his eighty-three years.
A time of visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 4th from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. at Holman-Howe Funeral Homein Lebanon.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, April 6th at 10:30 a.m. at the Avon Cemetery in Des Moines, Iowa.
