Leona Smith (Mansfield)'s Obituary
Leona Nora Smith, daughter of Walter and Iva Thomas Smith was born February 4, 1922 in Mansfield, Missouri and departed this life on April 3, 2012 in Cox Medical Center South in Springfield, Missouri at the age of ninety years, one month and twenty-nine days.
She was united in marriage to Loy Dennis and to this union four children were born.
On January 6, 1972 she was united in marriage to Robert Smith. Robert had a daughter, Joy, whom Leona thought of as her own.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Robert on July 12, 2004; a son, Walter “Sonny” Dennis; a granddaughter, Stacy Veit; five sisters, Leota, Louise, Minerva, Shirley and Jewell.
Leona is survived by two sons, Bill Dennis and his wife Pam of Nixa, Missouri and Harold Dennis and his wife Patty of Mansfield, Missouri; two daughters, Nancy Veit and her husband Jim of Mansfield, Missouri and Joy Neighbors and her husband Jay of Heber Springs, Arkansas; ten grandsons, seventeen great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews other relatives and friends and her special dog, Misty.
Leona was a devoted homemaker but also worked at various places during her life. She was a seamstress, had worked at Sears in California, Tobin-Hamilton Shoe Factory and Mansfield Nursing Home. She and Bob worked for the Army Corp of Engineers and had also managed the Highland Springs Mobile Home Park in Springfield for many years before retiring. She lived in several states throughout the years but always considered Mansfield her home.
Leona made her profession of faith in Christ at an early age and was a member of the Mansfield First Assembly of God Church.
In her spare time she enjoyed collecting Angels and was a big St. Louis Cardinals fan.
Leona was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, aunt and a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and accomplishments and will always treasure the many wonderful memories she created for her family and friends.
