Leonard Banks' Obituary
Leonard Dwight Banks, son of Lemuel Huston and Mary Bell (Brown) Banks, was born July 12, 1926, in Boysville, Arkansas. He departed this life Monday, January 22, 2007, in Glenwood Healthcare in Seymour, Missouri, at the age of eighty years, six months, and ten days. On September 25, 1951 he was united in marriage to Johnnie Sue Boyer and to this union three sons and one daughter were born. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Edward Banks; and a sister, Jean Lamoureux. Leonard is survived by his wife, Johnnie, of the home; three sons, Bobby Banks and Dwight Banks, both of Seymour, Missouri, and Linden Banks, and his wife, Cheri, of Channel View, Texas; a daughter, Carla Cantrell, and her husband, Philip, of Seymour, Missouri; five grandchildren, Amanda and Michael Banks, Bobby Lee Banks, Jr., Valerie Welker, and Danielle Banks; two great-grandchildren, Brandon Michael Gary, and Taylor Paige Alford; a brother, Norman Banks, and his wife, Lucy, Seymour, Missouri; two sisters, Narene Kelley, of Conroe, Texas; and Gwen Hosiner, of Seymour, Missouri; a brother-in-law, Jed Lamoureux, of Norwood, Missouri; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and many friends. He was born and raised in Arkansas and moved to New Madrid, Missouri in 1949, where he worked for the Atkins Ice Plant. After his marriage to Johnnie they lived in Lilbourn, Missouri before moving to Seymour in 1969, where they lived on the farm for thirty years and moved to town four years ago. Leonard had made his profession of faith in Christ and was currently attending Seymour Church of God. He enjoyed life on the farm where he spent many hours hitching his horses to his buggies for rides through the countryside. He loved spending time with his family and growing vegetables in his garden. In his spare time he played the harmonica and guitar. Leonard was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and accomplishments and will treasure the wonderful memories he has created for his family and friends. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 25, 2007, in the Holman-Howe Chapel, Seymour. Burial will be in the Seymour Masonic Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 7 - 8:00 p.m. under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Seymour, Missouri. Memorials to March of Dimes may be made through the funeral home.
