Leota Chappell (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Leota Rae Chappell, daughter of Lyall and Beulah Burke Pitt, was born May 15, 1938, in Vernal, Utah. She departed this life Tuesday, July 2, 2013, in her home, near Lebanon, Missouri, of natural causes, at the age of seventy-five years, one month, and seventeen days.
On October 22, 1956, she was united in marriage to Kenneth Walter Chappell, and to this union three daughters and one son were born.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Kenneth, on August 25, 2008; a brother, Homer; and a sister, Mary.
Leota is survived by a son, Ken Chappell, and his wife, Tammy, of Lebanon, Missouri; three daughters, Jodi Cohn, and her husband, David, of Peoria, Illinois, Linda Allred, of Jackson, Mississippi, and Kay Lyn Andrade, and her husband, Claudio, of Columbia, Missouri; three grandchildren, Daveigh, Kenna, and Doug; two great-grandchildren, Shawn, and Kenny; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and many special friends, including Beverly Schneider and LaVonna Jones.
She was born and raised in Utah, and graduated from Union High School in Roosevelt, Utah. After she and Kenneth were married, they made their home in Utah and in Wyoming for several years. In addition to being a devoted homemaker to her husband and family, Leota also worked as a legal secretary in Salt Lake City, Utah, for several years. In 1972, the family moved to Missouri, and eventually settled in the Lebanon area. Leota then worked at B. & D. Truck Port for a number of years.
Leota was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, as a young girl.
She greatly enjoyed music and loved playing the piano. She was particularly fond of cats and would often take in stray cats and then help to find them homes. She possessed a colorful personality, a dry wit, and was a person that you never had to wonder what she was thinking, as she would freely tell you. Her family was very dear to her and she especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Leota was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and know that her family and friends will cherish the wonderful memories she created for them throughout the years.
Memorial donations may be made to the Lebanon Humane Society and left at the funeral home.
