Leota Young's Obituary
Leota Bell Young, daughter of John William and Margaret Louise McClanahan Winn, was born February 14, 1911 in Wright County, Missouri. She departed this life Friday, January 23, 2009 in St. John’s Hospital, Springfield, Missouri at the age of ninety-seven years, eleven months, and nine days.
On March 23, 1935, Leota was united in marriage to Ralph Raymond Young and to this union two sons and a daughter were born.
Leota was preceded in death by her parents; her step-mother, Pearl; her husband Ralph, on November 15, 1994; a brother, Harrison; and four sisters, Thulie, Bertha, Bessie and Doanie.
She is survived by two sons, Roger Young and his wife Beverly of New Lenox, Illinois and Kenneth Young of Springfield, Missouri; a daughter Kathy Hagerman and her husband Steve of East Troy, Wisconsin; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a special friend Reuelene Hilton of Springfield, Missouri; a former daughter-in-law, Ozella, of Springfield, Missouri; a number of nieces and nephews and many dear friends.
Leota was born in Wright County and spent her younger years living with her family on their farm in Webster County. After moving back to Wright County, Leota met and married Ralph and together they loving raised their family. She also assisted Ralph when he owned and operated his auto garage by keeping the books.
Leota was a member of Little Creek Baptist Church in Hartville, and in her younger years, she had served the church as a Sunday school teacher and an Organist.
In her spare time, Leota enjoyed collecting antique dishware and loved spending time with her family and friends. She also continued to play the piano whenever she was able.
Leota was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her long life and her many accomplishments and will cherish the wonderful memories she has created for her family and many dear friends.
Funeral services for Mrs. Leota Bell Young will held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 28, 2009 in the Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Hartville. Burial will follow in Little Creek Cemetery, north of Hartville. Services are under the direction of the Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Hartville.
