Lewis Miller's Obituary
Lewis W. Miller, son of Ernest and Rosalee Carter Miller, was born January 2, 1925, near Buckner, Missouri. He departed this life Sunday, March 8, 2009, in St. John’s Hospital, in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of eighty-four years, two months, and six days. On February 12, 1959, he was united in marriage to Juanita Lee Shivers, and together they shared forty-one years before her passing on October 29, 1990. He was also preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Anita Miller; a son, Mike Miller; a great-grandson, Robert Reeves, Jr.; three brothers, William, Ernest, and Edward Lewis; and a sister, Betty Clark. Lewis is survived by a daughter, Cathy Garroutte, of Lebanon, Missouri; four sons, Roger Miller, of Kansas City, Missouri, David Miller, of Columbia, Missouri, Mark Miller, of Lebanon, Missouri, and Doug Miller, of Branson, Missouri; eighteen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; two brothers, Hugh Miller, of Bluffton, Indiana, and Robert Miller, of Lebanon, Missouri; two sisters, Dorothy Light, of Lebanon, Missouri, and Patsy Montgomery, of Kansas City, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. He was raised in the Kansas City, Missouri area. As a young man, he entered the United States Army and earned the rank of Staff Sergeant while working in the motor pool during World War II. He then entered the United States Navy and served his country faithfully during the Korean War. After being honorably discharged from the military, he returned to Kansas City and began working as a mechanic. In the late 1950’s, he moved to Lebanon, where he and Juanita made their home and lovingly finished raising their children. Throughout the years, Lewis continued to work as a mechanic and loved working on cars. He greatly enjoyed being outdoors and enjoyed fishing in his spare time. He also liked to go to auctions and yard sales. He was a friendly person and never met a stranger. His family was the center of his life and he especially enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Lewis was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and will treasure the memories he made for his family and friends. Services will be at 2:00 pm Thursday March 12, 2009 at Holman-Howe Funeral Home.Burial is at Crossroads Cemetery. Visitation is Wednesday evening 7-8:30 pm under the direction of the Holman-Howe Funeral Home Lebanon, Missouri. Memorials have been established to the American Heart association or American Cancer Society. Donations may be made through the funeral home. Return to top
