She was born and raised in the Drynob and Crossroads communities and attended Mount Salem School. After she and Junior were married, they made their home in the Lebanon area and lovingly raised their children. Lillian worked at a variety of jobs for several years in addition to being a devoted homemaker and mother. Then in 1963, she began training to be a cosmetologist which opened a career that would span forty-five years. She owned and operated Lillian’s Beauty Shop for many years, while training and helping over twenty apprentices get their start. For eleven years, she would go into the senior high rise apartment complexes and do the hair of ladies who were not able to leave their homes. She also was a tremendously talented cook and did catering in her spare time. On October 24, 2008, she gave up her career in order to spend more time with her family and new husband, Jack.
Lillian made her profession of faith in Christ early in her life and attended Crossroads Freewill Baptist Church. She was a longtime active member of First Freewill Baptist Church in Lebanon.
She was recently notified of her fifty year membership in the American Legion Auxiliary of Lebanon. She had a beautiful singing voice and learned to play the guitar from her brothers during their family music sessions. She later made two records in Nashville, Tennessee. She played the guitar and sang at the Ozark Jubilee and at Mace’s Ozark Opry for several years. She also sang in many churches and with different gospel groups. During her retirement years, she and Jack enjoyed traveling, spending time fishing at their Lake home, and being with their family and friends. She always put her family and her faith foremost in her life and greatly enjoyed her grandchildren. She possessed a heart of gold and was always willing to help others.
Lillian was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, and was a kind and caring neighbor and friend. We will remember her for many reasons, but certainly for how she carried herself with dignity and exemplified the essence of a true lady.
