Linda Lue Shanks (Seymour)'s Obituary
Born Linda Lue Cook on September 12, 1947, in Diggins, Missouri, Linda was one of seven children born to Huston and Helen Lucille (Denny) Cook. With family beside her, she departed this life January 5, 2021, at the age of 73, in Cox South Medical Center in Springfield, Missouri.
Linda was raised in the Diggins and Seymour area, having graduated from Seymour High School in the Class of 1965. After high school, she married Dennis Hume and became the devoted mother of Darren and Jennifer.
Early on, she worked at H.D. Lee, and then Sweetheart Cup in Springfield where she met David Shanks. On December 23, 1990, she and David were married and together they shared 27 happy years until his passing in 2017. Linda retired from Sweetheart Cup after nearly 18 years as a dedicated employee.
Linda always boasted that her greatest and proudest accomplishment was her children. She was a dedicated and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and was happiest spending time with family. In other spare time, she enjoyed reading and was especially fond of the Stephanie Plum Novels and James Patterson’s books. In addition to her parents, Linda was preceded in death by her husband, David Shanks; an infant brother, Ronald, and her other brother, Bob Cook; three sisters, Joetta Scott and her husband, Gus, Shirley Cook, and Susie Ferguson and her husband, Ben; a great-granddaughter, Piper; two nephews, Michael Pirtle, and Sammy Hale, and a niece, Kim Hale; and Dennis Hume.
Linda leaves behind her son, Darren Hume and his wife, Sherlyn, of Fordland, Missouri, and her daughter, Jennifer Emerick of Seymour; five grandchildren, Shawn Hume, Darren K.D. Hume and his wife, Shyann, Kourtney Laughlin and her husband, Chad, Kelsey Mincks and her husband, Cody, and Kaley Emerick; six great-grandchildren, Walker Hume, Jayden Hume, Wyatt Laughlin, Jenna Emerick, Zoey Williams, and Addi Emerick; a sister, Janice Stott and her husband, David, of the state of Texas, and sister-in-law, Geraldine Cook of Seymour; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; many more dear friends and neighbors.
