Lloyd Appleberry's Obituary
Lloyd Dean Appleberry, son of Walter and Lilly Swanigan Appleberry, was born April 8, 1934, near Lebanon, Missouri. He departed this life Wednesday, January 7, 2009, in Memphis, Tennessee, at the age of seventy-four years, eight months, and twenty-nine days. On December 25, 1970, he was united in marriage to Phyllis Anne Gilbert, and they shared the last thirty-eight years. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Lee, Lonnie, Herbert, and Clay Appleberry; and a sister, Ruby Davis. Lloyd is survived by his wife, Phyllis, of the home; a daughter, Louise Gelina, and her husband, Matt, of Lebanon, Missouri; five sons, Jim Appleberry, and his wife, Chris, Steve Appleberry, David Appleberry, and Jay Appleberry, all of Lebanon, Missouri, and Lonnie Appleberry, of Springfield, Missouri; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Larry Appleberry, and his wife Gay Lee, and James Donald Appleberry, and his wife, Cheryl, all of Lebanon, Missouri; five sisters, Mary Jane Johnson, and her husband, Everett, Shirley Baney, and Sharon Monnahan, all of Lebanon, Missouri, Edith Flanary, and her husband, James, of Bolivar, Missouri, and Betty Bittle, and her husband, Wendell, of Heber Springs, Arkansas; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. He was born and raised in the Lebanon, Missouri, area. After he and Phyllis were married, they made their home in the Lebanon community and lovingly finished raising their family. Throughout most of his life, Lloyd worked in the auto salvage business, and was an excellent core buyer. He and Phyllis had also operated a nursing home in Lebanon for several years. Lloyd had made his profession of faith in Christ and was an active member of Community Baptist Church, near Lebanon. He was especially involved in helping with the Overcomers group. In his spare time he enjoyed being outdoors where he particularly liked fishing and hunting. He really enjoyed barbequing for his family and friends and always hosted a big Fourth of July celebration. He was a kind man that believed in helping others. He possessed a delightful sense of humor and enjoyed joking with his friends. His family was very important to him and he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Lloyd was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and his accomplishments and will treasure the memories he made for his family and friends. Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday January 11, 2009 at Community Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Lonesome Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be on Saturday evening 7-8:30 pm at the funeral home under the direction of the Holman-Howe Funeral Home Lebanon, Missouri.
